First General hits the ice in the OGI Hockey Tournament

The First General hockey team hit the ice in the OGI Hockey tournament March 27-29, 2015.

The First General boys started the tournament slowly against First On Site. Four consecutive penalties in the first period allow the opposition to build a 2-0 lead. FG mounted furious pressure in the second and third periods as the ice tilted hard, despite a barrage of shots against the FOS goaltender, only John Kerr managed to bulge the twine and FG dropped the opener 2-1.

The second game Saturday afternoon saw the FG crew bounce back with a dominant performance against Intact winning 4-1. Pierre Rivard led the way with two goals with singles from Justin Marques and Adam Klimowicz.

Game three was for the right to play in the Sunday final. A determined FG squad played a solid game overall and beat Lambton Insurance Brokers Association 3-2. Pierre Rivard, Patrick Rivard and Chris Debruyn scored for FG.

For the first time team FG was playing for the Championship against Young’s Insurance Brokers. Despite dominating the game from the opening buzzer, a spectacular performance from the Young’s goaltender held the FG shooters to just 2 goals by Pierre and Patrick Rivard and FG came out on the losing end of a 3-2 score.

This was the best FG team assembled to date and acquitted themselves extremely well. They were very committed to the team concept and supported each other to the end. A great weekend was had by all and we look forward to returning to the Championship game next year in Kitchener with hopefully a different result.
